In 1905 Grange Urban District Council made byelaws relating to the Pleasure Grounds (the Ornamental Gardens / Duck Pond) and for the 'Regulation of the Foreshore'.
These were revised in 1990 by South Lakeland District Council.

I also rescued an old tin sign that used to be on a tree at the entrance to Yewbarrow Woods (the entrance off Hampsfell Road), the tree was felled and about to be taken away, and I salvaged the sign.
The image on the left is as it was on the tree in 2016, on the right is when I rescued it when the tree was felled in 2022. There was decades of hardened sap and resin on it. I've cleaned it up a bit.

I have tried deciphering it as much as I can, and have also looked at other woodland byelaws elsewhere in the country. My best stab at what it says is below. I can't find any information on who the Trustees were, or whether this was before or after the woodlands were given to the Council.
BY-LAWS OF THE TRUSTEES
(1) NO PERSON SHALL [DIG/CUT/TAKE/SELL ANY] TURF, SODS, OR SOIL OR REMOVE DISPLACE OR [CUT OR FEEL ANY TREE / CUT ANY SOIL, TURF TREES / CUT, PICK ANY TREES] OR PLNT
(2) NO PERSON SHALL DAMAGE ANY [RAILING], OR REMOVE, DAMAGE OR DEFACE ANY STRUCTURE, SEAT, FENCE OR NOTICE [-BOARD]
(3) NO PERSON SHALL [CATCH OR] KILL ANY BIRD OR ANIMAL, OR [SET] ANY TRAP OR SNARE [OR TO INJURE] SAME
(4) NO PERSON SHALL LIGHT ANY FIRE SUCH AS TO CAUSE ANY DAMAGE
(5) NO PERSON SHALL DEPOSIT ANY RUBBISH OR REFUSE ON THE PROPERTY
(6) ANY PERSON OFFENDING AGAINST ANY OF THE FOREGOING BY-LAWS SHALL BE LIABLE TO PROSECUTION
